The technology of the Living Machine inside the casino utilizes a 5 step process of filtering water through a process of equilization and filtration through gravel of wetland cells, finishing off with polishing treatment. The ecological engineering technology does many things for the Pier casino beyond providing reuse-quality water. It is a living system where plants are grown for purposes all the way from ornamentation to animal feed. The plants cycle through the air in the casino, pumping much needed oxygen into the building just as the myth says that Las Vegas casinos do to keep patrons more awake to stay longer. However with the Living Machine, the oxygen comes from a pure and ecologically sustainable source.
